HeartThoughts has a two-fold purpose which is more fully explained here. Simply put, we desire to challenge and encourage young ladies to pursue solitude (a focus on the Lord) and enrichment (a focus on great literature). The first Quest addresses the second of these goals; Quest Two is a combination of both. I will tell you up front that it is much more difficult than Quest One–but for many (not all), very do-able. The last time I read the entire Bible straight through in a year or less was my freshman year of college. That is entirely too long ago; it’s time to take a sweeping look at the whole of Scripture…in not a year, not six months…
90 days.
Have any of you heard about the 90 Day challenge before? It is not my own creation. I am borrowing the idea from Zondervan’s challenge held several years ago.I would not read the NIV so instead of using their Bible I took the daily readings and have them on a bookmark. Each week I will post the week’s readings so anyone can follow along. There are 88 days of reading, giving us two “grace” days for those things that always happen to disrupt best intentions.
On average this will only take a person 45 minutes a day. If you are like me you can accomplish it easily enough by carrying your Bible with you everywhere and reading in every spare moment. Do not try to block out an hour of time everyday to do nothing but sit and read; it may happen occasionally but for me, that is a rarity. I can, however, read while working in-between calls, read in the evenings when Rick and I are home, and even read some while cooking or waiting for something to boil or finish baking in the oven.
A mom with four young children probably is not as able to take this on as a single girl with some free time. I know there at least a few girls out there who have the desire and ability–why don’t you join me and we will hold each other accountable to finish this through before summer?
This post is to put the thought in your heads; pray, think, and in about two weeks we are going to begin. February 1 is the tentative start date. If you want to join us, comment below and get ready for the adventure.

That sounds great. I’ve been trying to figure out what to add to my devotions, as Table Talk is great, but it’s just not enough for a day. I will be planning on joining this quest!

I’ve never thought about doing this. I haven’t read the entire Bible yet so I am looking forward to this challenge and will do my best to do it as well as the first one.
Thanks for taking the time to do this, it is comforting to do these and know that other people are doing them as well. Self-improvement can often be a very lonely thing.
Many blessings,
Lizzy F.

I would very much like to do this, it sounds challenging, but a challenge is what I need.

I love the site Natalie, it is beautiful.

So, sorry I’m tired. Just to double check the idea is to read the Bible through in 90 days. And discuss what we read. That sounds great, I’d love to jump in.

I would like to sign up for Quest Two; I think it will be challenging - but in a VERY good way.
January 24, 2008 at 8:55 am
Natalie,
How do I sign up?
January 24, 2008 at 9:27 am
Kingsfiddler,
Just note on this post you are going to do it….and when I post checkpoints, make a post saying how you are doing, etc. Ideally I can have your first name at least, to put on the members page.

I’d like to sign up….thought alot about the practicalities of such a challenge with the Germany trip, but am determined to make it work with God’s help.
(Jess can be my faithful reminder.) Looking forward to February 1st!

I am jumping in. I know this is going to be a big challenge!
January 24, 2008 at 10:29 pm
I read through the Bible in three months back in November 2006-January 2007…it was a stretching experience, to say the least!
I’d like to join you ladies on this challenge; it will be lovely to have companionship along the way.

Natalie HI
I am a regular reader on YLCF..i love this site, very likely i’ll become a paying member this site, it’s so serene and beautiful..but to be on topic..I have a question…i know you say it will take us about 45 minutes per day to read the bible with 2 days rest..BUT how many chapters roughly is it per day? 7 or 8 chapters? Or more?
I honestly don’t know if i can handle to read it this quickly because I am starting a college class on Jan 29 and i work part time..it’d be something which would bless me greatly so i will pray about it more to God..
But please do let me know how many chapters per day will it be….?
I’ll let you know quickly after your answer if i’ll join i’ll definitely let you know before Feb 1st
To tell the truth if i do join this challenge i know I’ll be blessed beyond anything…so let me pray about it…and i’ll let you all know IF i’ll sign up!
And Natalie please also pray for me to make the right decision about this thanks
Sorry this was so long!
Take care,
Blessings,
PTL

Natalie,
My first name is Katie. We are friends on facebook. I will do my best to keep up you all

Jane,
It depends on the day, as to how many chapters. The first day is about 16 chapters of Genesis. But it will vary as the lengths of chapters vary significantly. You don’t have to commit yet–you can try it out. And you can always take a break if you cannot make it work. It’s okay.

I found this quest through ylcf, at a perfect time. I would love to join, and although it will be challenging for me, I will appriciate the support of all the other ladies doing this quest. I also have the support of my family who will help keep me accountable.
Love, Heidi

I am definitely going to join this quest! I know that it’s going to be a challenge for me, but I’m so excited to start. It will be awesome to be reading it with so many other ladies.

Hi Natalie, it’s Jen.
My problem will be wanting to study and chase bunnies throughout, but I think the discipline will be so refeshing. And exciting to do it with so many!
I’ve needed this kind of challenge for a long time.
Thanks Natalie, may the Grace and peace of Jesus be with you…

This will be a real challenge as I am a mom with several children. However, it’s just what I need now, so I will give it a try.
February 1, 2008 at 6:35 pm
I’m going to do it too! I’ve always wanted to do this, and now I have some motivation and accountability.
Since I’m brand new here, please forgive me if I leave comments in the wrong places.

Kathleen,
No, they are not all here. This is just the initial details. You need to follow the blog posts on the Journal to keep up.

Hey, Natalie!
Would you believe that at church yesterday my pastor announced that we (as a church) would be doing the 90-day challenge? Anyway, my brothers and I are doing it together and it has been awesome! We are taking turns reading aloud and it has been such a great thing for us.
Anyway, all this to say that I’m planning to participate in this quest as well (though we just started yesterday, so I’m a couple of days “behind,” haha!).
Thanks,
Clara H.

Oh, I forgot to mention my age: 19.
February 5, 2008 at 2:13 pm
Natalie - Later this week I will have no computer access and will not be able to get Saturday post of readings until Wednesday. I will just keep on reading straight through - we are not jumping around are we? - but was hoping you could tell me where we should be by the end of Tuesday so that I don’t get behind. Thanks!

I’ve been doing this unofficially for the past week but I’ll make it official and add my name to the list.
